ARTECHA

Art | Technology | Design

6 events | 3 days

Miami University and the College of Creative Arts is proud to announce Artecha!

Free and open to the public, with over six exhibitions over three days, Artecha includes architectural projection mapping, virtual and augmented reality, immersive soundscapes, a electroacoustic music concert, geo-mapping visualization, and a pop-up student gallery across Miami University Oxford Campus.

Artecha 2019 explores the intersection between art and technology through immersive and interactive art experiences. The festival is a collaboration between the College of Creative Arts, Arts Management & Entrepreneurship Program, Interactive Media Studies, Architecture and Interior Design, and the Department of Art at Miami University. The events will take place May 3-5th at various locations across Miami’s Oxford campus.

Devised to explore the relationship between the arts and technology, the festival includes a number of hands on, interactive, and immersive experiences. Featured in the lineup is Tiffany Carbonneau, Associate Professor of Art and founder of the Digital Art and Integrated Media program at Indiana University Southeast, whose original work, Boats against the Current, will be projected on the Southwest exterior of Harrison Hall along Slant Walk.  Also included is the contemporary music ensemble, Ensemble Parallax who will debut several original compositions by Miami Music Technology faculty, Per Boland. Associate Professor of Architecture at Miami, Diane Fellows, will unveil an original soundscape titled, And that’s as far as the story goes, that will be spatialized around the Southwest corner of Alumni Hall facing Spring Street. In addition, a virtual reality experience created by Architecture Graduate Student Brian Oldiges will be presented in the Alumni Hall rotunda along with a student exhibition in Alumni Hall. Rounding out the festival will be a collaborative and interactive geo-mapping visualization project by Interactive Media Studies Faculty Eric Hodgson that will allow users to unlock artwork by exploring various parts of Miami’s campus.

The planning team behind the festival includes Todd Stuart - Director of the Arts Management and Entrepreneurship Program, Annie Dell’Aria - Assistant Professor of art History, Eric Hodgson - Instructor Interactive Media Studies, Diane Fellows - Associate Professor of Architecture, and Willie Caldwell - Visiting Assistant Professor of Arts Management & Entrepreneurship. “It’s such an exciting time for the arts at Miami. Artecha will be an opportunity to showcase the interdisciplinary work being done in arts and technology across campus. This type of work is the future of art and cultural production and has the opportunity to make Miami a destination for the arts, technology, and the creative economy,” said Caldwell.

The festival is brand new to Miami University’s campus and will demonstrate the talent found within the Miami University College of Creative Arts. This three-day event is free and open to the general public.

Artecha represents unique partnership between the College of Creative Arts, Arts Management & Entrepreneurship Program, Interactive Media Studies, Architecture and Interior Design, and the Department of Art at Miami University of Ohio.
